Dancing Through the Gloom: Mikayla & Emmy’s Empowering Mommy and Me Photo Shoot at Legacy West

There’s something magical about capturing the bond between a mother and daughter—and Mikayla and Emmy’s fall photo session was no exception. As a DFW family photographer, I’ve had the honor of documenting so many special connections, but this mommy and me photo shoot in Plano felt especially powerful.

We met at Legacy West on an overcast day, the kind where the clouds create the perfect soft light that photographers dream about. While the sun didn’t make an appearance, the glow between Mikayla and Emmy lit up every frame.

This session was all about creating space for both empowerment and play. We chose Legacy West and the top of a nearby parking garage for a mix of urban style and open space—perfect for twirling, dancing, and letting loose. Emmy brought the fun with her bright personality, and Mikayla was stunning as she laughed and moved freely with her daughter. One of my favorite moments was when we danced on the roof—no expectations, just joy.

These types of shoots are why I love being a Plano photographer. They remind me that family photography doesn’t always have to be formal—it can be fun, real, and deeply meaningful. Mommy and me sessions like this one are a chance to freeze time, capture that bond, and celebrate the powerful women and bright little girls growing up beside them.
