Family Photo Joy with the Varnells at Black and Light Studio
Last year, I had the absolute joy of photographing the Varnell Family’s holiday family session at one of my favorite places—Black and Light Studio in Carrollton, Texas. The Varnells brought together three generations for a fun, relaxed hour of studio photography that truly captured their connection, laughter, and love.
From the beginning, they knew they wanted a look that was fun but timeless. Their outfit choice—coordinated in denim, black, and white—was the perfect blend of classic and modern. No frills, no fuss, just clean lines and coordinated style that let their personalities shine through. It was a reminder that family sessions don’t have to be complicated. With the right lighting, a versatile backdrop, and genuine moments, something simple can still be incredibly beautiful.
One of the reasons I love working at Black and Light Studio is its versatility. Whether I’m photographing a branding session, maternity shoot, or a family like the Varnells, the space allows me to get creative while keeping things easy and comfortable for my clients. It’s a true gem in the DFW photography scene.
During our session, we captured everything from full group portraits to sweet grandparent-grandchild moments, playful sibling interactions, and individual shots that each family member can cherish. It was an hour filled with laughter, storytelling, and subtle glances that said more than words ever could.
If you’ve been considering a studio photography session but feel overwhelmed by planning or styling, take this as your sign: Keep it simple. Let’s focus on connection, joy, and your unique family story. Sometimes the most beautiful images come from the most relaxed sessions.
